Voicing Desperation

I received great news yesterday as we were doing the rounds of warehouses and storage facilities in downtown Manila. The demo song that I recorded for Vince de Jesus was approved, no -- so well-liked by the ABS-CBN prod team that they want me to record the song! Wow! Imagine that?

Vince said that they actually auditioned for other ghost singers and they heard one who sounded good but, executives say, was blank. The prod team liked my recording because it was full of emotion or something to that effect. Press release ni Vince, they want to get me for the whole series which is like 9 songs! Wow! And as if I wasn't excited enough, he told me that when the prod people ask me my price --- I should not go lower than P5K! Per song!

Visions of peso signs danced in my head. Ka-ching! Nagbilang kaagad. Heyheyhey. P45,000 for a gig I'd gladly do for a lot less.... Not bad at all.

But I got a call which doused my financial daydreams as immediately as they were conjured. They only want me to do 1 song. One song! Lang! Only!

So, before I get carried away by green bucks on my mind and the possibility of being featured as the voice behind Anne Curtis' Kampanerang Kuba, I am awakened by the harsh reality that this is just a gig. Raket, kumbaga. What kind of impact can 1 song do? Still... Wowwwwweee! Am so excited, nonetheless!

The song is really beautiful, but haunting. I wonder if they like my version because it sounded more true, more desperate? hehehehehe

I usually insert my horoscope for the day, but since it doesn't relate to me the least, I am not including it! Clue: it has something to do about my (non-existent) lovelife.

I am thankful for:
1. Mango shakes in the morning c/o my mom
2. Pleasant surprises - indirect compliments! Like the ABSCBN people chose my version of Vince's already beautiful composition.
3. Getting paid for something I love to do --- cultural/ diplomatic work & singing/ being in theater!
4. Making contact with old friends --- like Chesca Diaz and Ninotchka Sulit --- girls from high school which I thought were out of my league. Me being the geek and all and they being popular and cool.
5. Being able to upload digital photos to my computer without pestering other officemates.

Today, the world has a new pope: Pope Benedict XVI.
