Dear Santa (aka Ben Chan),
I.M. Weasel is highly intelligent, and is skilled in most if not all known professions, anything from electronics and engineering to medicine and philosophy; he is also incredibly charming and well-versed in the social graces, and will often have a pretty girl at his side (a recurring character, usually dressed as a nurse). Weasel's only real flaw is a secret desire to suck the yolk from eggs (though such behavior is actually a characteristic of the mongoose family, which is of a different order of mammals than weasels). He is usually the only successful character in a given episode. The standard image of Weasel wears no clothing, though he will often don outfits appropriate to his activities (such as a lab coat when working as a doctor or scientist). He is prone to declaring "I am Weasel!" before leaping into a situation.Whenever I see Weasel, I cringe. Apparently cartoons are drawn from real life and Weasel has just jumped out of Cartoon Network and into my life.
There is no escaping his pronouncements on virtuosity. He's all puffed up inside despite his cadaverous exterior. He knows it all but masks it in an effacing manner. Asks you for your opinion, and nudges it aside, coz his is still best. Arrrrgggghhhh...
When I get my Masters degree (which will not be in Theology, mind you), I will show this Weasel...
Does this make me I. R. Baboon? :P
The concept for the CCP openings was exciting. There will be six events in one night to take place in different areas in the CCP --- all paying homage and performing around Luz's works. The first performance was a dance performance choreographed by Gerald Madrid and executed by Tiffany Mangulabnan and PJ Rebullida, using Luz's "Black Form, White Space" at the Little Theater Lobby as inspiration. It was okay but not really spectacular. The dancers were competent but the choreography was a bit tired. Not bad but nothing to write about... so....
Next piece was an improvisation by the Tanghalang Pilipino Actors Company played in front of the more lively pieces done by Luz. I think I saw this piece in the performance....
You know when you hear a song and you could swear the composer/ singer read your mind... I love love love this song!
KEANE LYRICS
Somewhere Only We Know
I walked across an empty land
I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me complete
Oh simple thing where have you gone
I'm getting old and I need something to rely on
So tell me when you're gonna let me in
I'm getting tired and I need somewhere to begin
I came across a fallen tree
I felt the branches of it looking at me
Is this the place we used to love?
Is this the place that I've been dreaming of?
Oh simple thing where have you gone
I'm getting old and I need something to rely on
So tell me when you're gonna let me in
I'm getting tired and I need somewhere to begin
And if you have a minute why don't we go
Talk about it somewhere only we know?
This could be the end of everything
So why don't we go
Somewhere only we know?
[break]
Oh simple thing where have you gone
I'm getting old and I need something to rely on
So tell me when you're gonna let me in
I'm getting tired and I need somewhere to begin
So if you have a minute why don't we go
Talk about it somewhere only we know?
This could be the end of everything
So why don't we go
So why don't we go
This could be the end of everything
So why don't we go
Somewhere only we know?

Beautiful Days starring Lee Byung Hun and Choi Ji Woo
I take partial responsibility for presenting the movie, but the choice was left to my friend. You know that she's quite profound because she thought that the movie was about traitors in flight! I thought that the film would be a winner as B-movie gore is always entertaining (to me, at least) but my friend covered her eyes each time she would hear snakes hissing or slithering... Sayang naman ang movie ticket niya! What could have been shared sympathy for the poor pathetic passengers was lost.
The Noh group, Nohgakushi (noh master) Naohiko Umewaka with Kidlat Tahimik (center) --- call him Kid. Kidlat Tahimik
Friends, behold my new hairdo.
The new hairdo is not really so new. I remember having this hairstyle when I was supposed to graduate in college. Exactly 10 years ago! Hehehe.
Anyway, after the Noh group left, I was able to enjoy my solitary silence and enjoy the foggy sights at the SM Baguio. I also bought 4 magazine back-issues and stuffed myself with Max's Chicken. To this time, I don't want to eat chicken for a long time.
A couple of hours later, the Budo (budu--- voodoo, sabi daw ni University Vice President) demonstration group came in.
The event was fun, although there could have been more audience but the mere fact that there were no classes, drove the attendance to be less than 500. Still it was a decent turnout.
The Budo group was composed of mostly men, save for a girl (nan-sai desuka? niju-sai desu.) who was the direct descendant of the Takenouchi family -- experts of the martial arts of sticks and tying -- in short, props. The girl, Michiko, was quite popular with the boys in the audience. However, I had my eye on the young virile male of the group, Akira.

Hay naku. Lola Asim mode na naman ako...Anyway, I hope I can join the next out-of-town trips... pati out-of-country of course!
Me, Midori Hirota & Alma Quinto
She opened an exhibit at the Green Papaya last week called "Back of Affection". These are photos of her work displayed at the gallery.

The figurines denote the people which inhabit our world. Maybe from the vantage point of the untrained eye, we are all the same. But the Creator made efforts to make each figurine special by giving it unique identifying quirks, however small it is. This concept is carried further in the next to-do by the viewer.

The exchange of small personal effects in exchange of the figurine represent the offering of oneself to get the trust of another. It shows an investment in getting "a piece" of the other person. In exchange for my figurine, I left my nailcutter. It was such a negligible object, but I felt somehow hesitant to part with it. Even though the figurine was more special, it was hard parting with a thing that was mine for so long.
Nice concept eh?
I admire Midori more for what she did for the earthquake victims in Jogjakarta. Here is a link to her site : www.midoriart.exblog.jp . What she did, in a nutshell, is employ an organized, efficient and effective way of delivering relief to the victims of the Jogja-earthquake. She has initiated a relief operation which benefited many villagers, and has now enough money to have 10 bamboo day-care centers built for the children of Jogjakarta.

Next location! I took in the good contemporary asian art collection of the museum (they have excellent taste for putting in a lot of Filipinos' works) but was not able to reflect (reflect daw o?) on the meanings or the statements of the works. I was really so gung-ho to get to my next pit stop (ala Amazing Race) that I wasnt able to relish the whole experience. Although I would like to say that I saw a really raw, badly presented exhibit on 3d architectural studies which I thought was a mistake on SAM's part.It looked unfinished and random --- like kalat that was not set aside.
Walked for a bit and consulted my map. According to it and the street signs, I am near Orchard Road already. Lesson #1. If travelling and in doubt, try to take public transportation. My swelling corns and calluses should have signalled me to take the MRT already but as I was conditioned to soak in the culture and the peoples' vibes, I thought, "walking is a good introduction to a locality". Although when I see those Singaporeans drive up in their luxury cars, I miss my trusty FX.

I don't know you; you don't know me. How convenient.
